Celebration of Nations

Celebration of Nations returns to St. Catharines’ FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre from Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11. This annual Indigenous arts gathering celebrates creativity, diversity and resilience.

This year’s lineup includes performances by Buffy Sainte-Marie with Shawnee Kish (Sept. 10), and as a special First Ladies of Jazz concert presented in partnership with the TD Niagara Jazz Festival (Sept. 9).

Engaging options for cultural discovery include daily sunrise ceremonies, storytelling and teachings around the sacred fire with Indigenous Elders, an interactive Indigenous Discovery Zone and hands-on workshops that allow participants to try crafting traditional Indigenous items, including pottery, drums, moccasins, and jewellery. The gathering concludes with Drums Across Canada, a special cross-country drum circle that features Indigenous drum groups from 8 provinces and territories (Sept. 11).

With over 40 in-person events, many with virtual broadcasts, and a combination of ticketed, pay-what-you-can and free admission options, this three-day Indigenous Arts Gathering offers something for everyone.
