7 poutines to try in St. Catharines

French fries topped with cheese curds topped with gravy: comfort food doesn’t get comfier than that. Whether you’re looking for something as a late-night snack, to warm up with on a cold day or to share with friends (if you can), there are some great spots for poutine in St. Catharines.

The Works

The Works is a great place for burgers fries and shakes, and also poutine. There’s a couple craft poutines with Canadian cheese curds and gourmet toppings to choose from. With fresh cut fries, cheese curds, gravy topped with crumbled maple bacon, crispy bacon sticks and drizzled with bacon roasted garlic aioli you should give the Works’ Tragically Maple Poutine a try.

Parkway Social

Parkway Social has everything you need for a great night out all in one place, including bowling, laser tag and poutine. Loaded with Canadian cheese curds and gravy, Parkway Social has one of the tastiest classic poutines around.

Smoke’s Poutinerie

Craving poutine in St. Catharines? For the last 10 years its been a no-brainer: head to Smoke’s. There’s so many options if your looking for something different. The Buffalo Cauli-Ranch Poutine is the perfect way to spice it the classic. Plus, it’s vegetarian!

The Feathery

Poutine at the Feathery Pub is one of the best reasons to head over to Fourth Avenue. Order the Yorkshire Pudding Poutine when you can – it pops up on the menu as a small batch feature from time to time. The vegan gravy & “cheese” poutine is gluten free and excellent.

13th Street Winery

Comfort food doesn’t get cozier than poutine by the fire at 13th Street Winery. During the Niagara Icewine Festival 13th Street was pairing its 2019 Riesling Reserve Icewine with poutine topped with Icewine caramelized onions, smoked bacon, peppercorn gravy, and – of course – fresh cheese curds. Check 13th Street’s website to see what poutine is on the menu and cross your fingers for the black truffle gravy.

Hambrg

Cold January days call for a warm, substantial meal like poutine! Hambrg on St. Paul delivers with some really interesting twists on the ole’ fries, cheese and gravy. 3 a.m. in Montreal features smoked brisket, Dijonnaise and sour pickles while the Notorious P.I.G is topped with braised pork shoulder, BBQ sauce and pickled jalapeños.

MJ’s Own Munchies

If you’re looking for a classic poutine with fresh cut fries, curds and gravy, then MJs Own Munchies is the place to go! This “chip stand” is open year round with indoor and outdoor seating. While there’s a lot of options on the menu, the poutine is a local favourite. PRO TIP – Check MJ’s Facebook page for the names of the day because the only better than the poutine is the poutine plus free fries.
