Posted on July 29, 2025

When summer hits, there’s no better place to be than by the water — and in St. Catharines, we’re lucky to have a stunning waterfront playground right in our own backyard. From sun-soaked beaches to sailing tours, there are endless ways to soak up the season and make the most of our lakeside location.

Here’s your ultimate guide to water activities in St. Catharines:

Spend the Day at the Beach

Nestled on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, Lakeside Park Beach is a summer favourite. With 1,500 feet of sandy shoreline, beach volleyball courts, picnic spaces, and accessible beach mats, it’s ideal for families and sunseekers alike. The park is also home to the beloved antique carousel (just 5 cents a ride!), plus accessible washrooms, concessions, a playground, and connections to the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail and Port Dalhousie Harbour Walkway. Don’t forget to check out the Neil Peart Pavilion and Rotary Club Bandshell for summer entertainment.

A local gem in the city’s north end, Sunset Beach features a public boat launch, a large sandy shoreline, and a playground and picnic area for families. On-site and nearby parking makes it an easy spot to spend a sunny afternoon — and, of course, it’s a prime location for catching one of Lake Ontario’s spectacular sunsets.
