FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre presents Kandace Springs with Sammy Jackson in St. Cathairnes Wednesday, February 14.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with an evening of jazz featuring Kandace Springs, the talented Nashville singer-pianist who uses modern production to bend sound into new genre forms. The evening will open with local emerging jazz sensation Sammy Jackson.
Kandace Springs was born in Nashville, Tennessee and raised with Nina Simone as an idol. Kandace approached music thanks to her father Scat Springs, who during his life was part of the group of musicians of a range of musicians including Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and Michael McDonald.
Springs’ latest album, The Women Who Raised Me (2020), is her loving tribute to the great female singers who inspired her to begin her journey towards becoming one of the premier jazz/soul vocalists of our time. The album features her unique interpretations of songs that she first heard growing up in Tennessee, and ranges from such classic icons as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Carmen McRae, through 60s legends Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield, and up to modern masters such as Sade and Lauryn Hill.
