Cultural Things to do in St. Catharines

St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre

Join the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre for a guided tour of the Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial Tuesday, June 4and learn about the worksite of the Welland Ship Canal, constructed between 1913 and 1932, through the lives of the 138 men who died during its construction. The tour is approximately 45-60 minutes. No registration required.

The Museum will also be open late from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving with special events throughout. Check the Museum Calendar for specific program dates.

The Film House at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre features world-class cinema in Downtown St. Catharines! The Film House offers unique films in a modern, cinematic environment with Niagara wine and craft beer and screen the latest documentaries, new features and classic films.

St. Catharines City Hall

  • Downtown: a Walk Through Time: An exploration of artwork from the City of St. Catharines’ Civic Art Collection featuring works by seven local artists; third-floor gallery space; on view until September 13.
  • Spotlight: Recent Acquisitions is on view until fall 2024; third-floor outside the Mayor’s Office.
  • Vibrant: an exhibition of six pieces with captivating colours that lend “depth, energy, and visual impact; second floor; on view until fall 2024.

John Mann Gallery

  • DRAPELL: featuring important senior Canadian artist Joseph Drapell and exhibiting the artist’s new works as well as large historical paintings; on view May 25 to June 22.
  • SEVEN: A must see exhibition featuring landscape paintings by seven diverse and distinctive artists:  Robert Amirault, Jody Clement, Joachim Gmoser, Chrissy Nickerson, Jill Sapiente, Svetlana Turov, and Ron Wilkie; on view May 25 to June 22 

The MIWSFPA Visual Art Gallery

  • Unseen: a Willow Arts Community group exhibition exploring themes of presence and belonging in the local arts scene; on view from May 24 to June 15.

Niagara Artists Centre

  • Hidden St. Catharines, an ongoing art project by Joseph Gottli is on view at the Flea Market Gallery on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until July 21.
